Infrasound App Test

In this presentation, I will first show you how we test and evaluate a suitable USB measurement microphone for infrasound measurements using an iPhone.

The MEMS microphones built into all smartphones are optimized for speech intelligibility at frequencies of 80 Hz and above.

Low-frequency sound pressure levels—such as those caused by wind gusts—would impair microphone performance and degrade speech intelligibility.

Consequently, most microphone preamplifiers feature a high-pass filter set at 20 Hz.

This also applies to all USB audio interfaces with 48-volt phantom power.

Specialized measurement devices for industrial acoustics are capable of capturing infrasound starting at 1 Hz—or, when used with the RogaDAQ 384, even as low as 0.3 Hz.

iSV1611 USB Microphone

In its standard configuration, our iSV1611 1/2-inch measurement microphone (Class 1) is ideally suited for infrasound measurements in the 4 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range.

A specialized infrasound microphone capsule enables professionals to perform infrasound measurements in the 1 Hz to 20 kHz range.

The iSV 1611 microphone supports a sampling rate of 192 kHz, thereby enabling ultrasonic measurements up to 80 kHz.

Plug.n.DAQ Lite

The 2-channel IEPE sensor interface is suitable for connecting all IEPE sensors. Its linear frequency response from 10 Hz to 20 kHz covers most applications in sound and vibration measurement technology.

Depending on the application, we can supply an input measurement range of 100 mV/g for very low-level noise or small vibrations.

For high-amplitude shocks or loud noises, we recommend a 10-volt input measurement range.

RogaDAQ 384

It features a USB-C interface and a sampling rate of 384 kHz. The frequency range extends from DC to 120 kHz. AC/DC coupling and IEPE supply can be activated independently for each channel via DIP switches.

The Roga DAQ 384 32-bit float analog-to-digital converter offers simultaneous sampling, a high signal-to-noise ratio, and low self-noise.

The RogaDAQ 384 is ideally suited for all professional applications in industrial measurement technology.
